Cones
- Cones are responsible for colour vision
- There are three (3) different types of cones- red, green and blue cones. Each type contains a different pigment that absorbs different wavelengths of light
- RED - responds to long wavelengths
- GREEN - responds to medium wave lengths
- BLUE - responds to short wavelengths
- As cones are closely packed, they allow the perception of details
- Cones respond quickly to light, so they are able to perceive rapidly changing images
- Cones do not function well in dim light
